  • Study of a radial gasostatic bearing featuring new properties Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

A mathematical model of a radial cylinder-shaped gas suspender featuring spiral grooves on a fixed component affected with reverse-mirroring fracture along the bottom and top generants has been developed. Based on solving the boundary-value problem numerically, it has been found that the bearing is capable of carrying a substantial load in the coaxial position. Such an effect reduces any possibility of the contact of the support components during the course of operation and increases the dependability of the support.

  • Wavelike gas dispersion in a liquid in a compressor-free environment Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

An experimental investigation has been performed regarding the operation of a new type of wave-generating gas disperser in a liquid in entrainment mode in a compressor-free environment. The wave-generating disperser and ejector-caused gas flow relationship with the water pressure at the disperser inlet under different design factors has been obtained. The gas bubbles’ average size has been measured in a biphase stream leaving the disperser. Recommendations for the selection of the disperser parameters have been submitted. The goal of this work is the simplification of plants intended for dispersing gas in a liquid, diminishing the gas bubbles’ size, and reducing the dispersion energy flow. This is a pressing problem for many chemical technology targets, for wastewater biological treatment systems, and for chlorinating or ozonizing tap water.

    • Abstract:

The results of the solution of tribological problems emerging when friction units operate in heavy liquid metals as heat carriers in nuclear power plants are presented. An installation has been developed to simulate the vibrational wear of friction units in heat exchanging tubes of interfaced units with spacing gratings in order to simulate resistance to the vibration of the steam generator of a fast neutron reactor with lead heat carriers. A method of study has been developed, samples of tubes and spacing gratings have been tested for vibrational wear, and metallographic and profilometric exploration has been performed. The wear mechanism is described and the tentative life of the steam generator pipes is assessed.

    • Abstract:

A method of synthesis of kinematic schemes of gearboxes on the basis of single-type modular mechanisms is presented. If the number of modular mechanisms forming the gearbox is increased, the number of gears increases sharply. Mathematical numerical systems, in which the number of digits is equal to the number of similar modules and the numerals in these digits coincide with the combination of connected control elements and determine the respective gear ratio, are brought into single-valued correspondence with modular kinematic diagrams.

  • Experimental verification of a mathematical model of the wheel-supporting surface interaction during nonstationary rolling motion Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

A new mathematical model of the oscillating processes of complex systems of elastically deformed solids with superimposed nonholonomic rheonomous constraints under random perturbation is discussed in regards to the contact (tribological) interaction of a wheel and a supporting surface, torsional wheel oscillations, and transmission as applied to multiple-seated wheeled vehicles. The results of the testing of a vehicle by means of a stand with chassis dynamometers in stationary and nonstationary modes of wheel rolling motion are given. The obtained regularities make it possible to depict the picture of oscillations of the system under consideration, which will help to formulate complex requirements for the active safety control systems of multiaxis wheeled vehicles in the future.

  • Parameters of fracture mechanics under combined loading by normal separation and In-plane shear Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

The methods of separable functions and finite elements have been used to generate design formulas of the J-integral for a tensing plate made of material reinforced by a deformation with a centrally inclined through crack. The crack angle allows for a variation of the loading conditions from normal separation up to the combined loading by normal separation and in-plane shear. The correcting coefficients η pl and η pl COD that enter into the formulas of the J integral depend on the relation between normal separation and in-plane shear parameters and on the deformation reinforcement factor. At the same time, the normalized correcting coefficients η pl (θ)/η pl (θ = 0) are practically independent of the sample geometry.

    • Abstract:

The problem regarding the numerical simulation of a circular profile motion in a liquid flow has been studied. To calculate the flow and the aerodynamic loads acting on the profile, the vortex element method is used. The phenomenon of wind resonance has been examined. The investigation has revealed the range of self-frequencies of the circular profile fixed elastically, under which the periodical aerodynamic forces caused by Karman vortexes descend and initiate the resonance aeroelastic oscillations of the profile.

  • Fracture prediction under the simultaneous bending and straining of a wide bar at an elevated temperature Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

In processes of metal formation at an elevated temperature, the fracture criterion should depend at least on the parameter of a triaxial stressed state, the equivalent strain rate, and the temperature. This significantly complicates the investigation in comparison with the case of cold processing. However, in the case of fracture initiation at the free surface under plane-strain conditions, a computational scheme is found that is similar to the one used in processes of cold working under pressure, although in another space. This scheme is used for the prediction of the beginning of the fracture in the process of the simultaneous bending and straining of a wide bar.

  • Numerical modeling an elastohydrodynamic contact of shaped rollers with allowance for misalignment of their axes Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

A method of numerically solving an elastohydrodynamic (EHD) contact of shaped rollers with allowance for misalignment of their axes in a plane perpendicular to the rolling direction is advanced. The mode of EHD lubrication is typical of such friction assemblies as roller bearings and gearings, in which the contacting elastic bodies are separated by a lubricant film and deformed under the action of an external load. Results of numerical modeling demonstrate the significant effect of the misalignment angle on the distribution of pressure and thickness of the lubricant film in the EHD contact and can be used further to analyze friction in a contact area and the stress tensor in a subsurface layer. The mathematical model of the EHD contact is described through nonlinear integro-differential equations and inequalities. The computational algorithm is based on Newton’s method.

Relationships allowing for a proper description of the process of inelastic nonisothermal loading of components made of semibrittle materials by taking into account the physical peculiarities of the deformation process, such as a violation of the single-curve law, different resistance against strain and compression, a variation of the residual volume, etc., are presented.

    • Abstract:

Computation procedures are set forth that are required for the calculation of forced oscillation intensity estimates in linear steady-state mechanical systems with incomplete information on acting disturbances (disturbance accumulation problems). A classical Bulgakov problem, the case of the action of disturbances of an unlimited duration, is considered, as well as the action of disturbances of a finite duration, periodic modes, and periodic mode establishment processes. It is shown that for systems given in the Cauchy normal form, the estimate calculations are reduced to operations regarding the fundamental matrix of a homogeneous system.

    • Abstract:

According to research data on the space of dimensionless parameters of positioning drive mathematical models with engines of different types, a general method of their analysis and synthesis has been constructed. Before the investigational models were developed, the main factors influencing the dynamics of the drive were created in the form of a vector of the parameters and limitations. The method is based on the use of dimensionless criterion dependences representing the connection between the time factor of the drive movement process and the structural factor characterizing its response rate. Algorithms for solving the problems regarding the selection of the positioning drive parameters are considered.

  • Markovian model for the growth of corrosion defects and its application for the control of pipeline integrity Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

A Markovian model for the growth parameters of defects (length, depth, and width) based on the use of in-pipe and verification measurements has been developed. Its consistency and adequacy were verified by an independent method based on the combination of a differential equation describing the growth of defect parameters with the modeling of the initial sizes of defects by the Monte Carlo method. The developed model allows for the determination of the probability of the existence of defect parameters in a determined state at any time and the intensity of the transition from one state to another. The model provides the possibility to obtain an evaluation of the conditional probability for the breakdown of any section of the pipeline by the defect growth parameters obtained as a result of in-pipe crack detection. Based on the developed model, an algorithm for the time optimization of the subsequent inspection/repair of the pipeline was constructed. The methodology was approved on a virtual real pipeline with the use of results of in-pipe and verification measurements.

Mathematical models are described for processes with time-dependent control functions, namely, pressure and discharge sources, as well as with a non-steady-state filtration area boundary. The possibility of the effect of viscosity with properties dependent on time as a consequence of the influence of temperature is taken into account. The limited nature of Darcy’s law, due to its incorrectness in axially symmetric cases, is shown. A new filtration law correct in axially symmetric processes is proposed, of which Darcy’s law is a special case.

    • Abstract:

By the example of elastic and viscoelastic systems, it is shown that a deterministic parametric system, which is unstable according to Liapunov, can be stabilized by means of the imposition of random noise on the parametric load. The noise is taken in the form of a Gaussian stationary process with latent periodicity. The system stability and the stability with respect to the statistical moments of the first and second orders are considered. The analysis is constructed on the basis of the computation of the maximum Liapunov factor corresponding to the stability type under consideration. The effect of the viscous properties of a material on the stability factors is investigated.

  • Evaluation of equivalent (by residual life) periods of thermal soaking during complex fatigue tests of samples of structural components Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

For the purpose of the substantiation of the parameters of forced fatigue tests, equivalent (by residual life) periods of thermal soaking during complex fatigue tests of smooth samples were determined by the calculation method. The variation of the lifetimes of samples with a hole and samples of riveting joints of D16AT and AK4-1AT1 aluminum alloys was experimentally investigated as a function of the previous stress history. The effect of aging processes on the fatigue strength of the samples that occur during soakings with different durations under natural conditions during the action of heightened temperature was evaluated. During the selection of the parameters of forced fatigue tests, it was shown to be necessary to take into account the different nature of the variation of the mechanical characteristics of structural components, which depended on the type of the structural component, the alloy, the soaking temperature, and modes of the fatigue tests. The results can be used during the design of experiments for the evaluation of effects of various factors on the fatigue life of structural components and during the forecasting of their operational life.

  • Contact fracture of a bushing in the case of cracks near the friction surface Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

The problem of the contact deformation of a friction couple bushing is discussed. It is assumed that the bushing has an arbitrary number of rectangular cracks near the friction surface. They have boundary areas within which the cracks interact. The boundary value problem of the equilibrium of the friction couple bushing with cracks interacting along the edges is tackled by solving the system of nonlinear singular integrodifferential equations with a kernel of the Kochi type. The solution of this system of equations has yielded the normal and tangent forces in the interface. The condition of the limiting equilibrium of the crack with the boundary regions is formulated by taking into account the criterion of the limiting stretching of the material’s bonds.

  • On the occurrence of self-synchronization of autooscillations of turbocompressor rotor blades Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

The self-synchronization of the spectral parameters of turbocompressor blades is studied, as well as its connection with nonlinear resonance during fluttering. The evolution of blade oscillations during the growth of turbocompressor rotor revolutions is characterized by the concurrence of torsional and flexural oscillation modes, a change of the base frequencies of the rotor blades, and the appearance of a common synchronization frequency in their spectrum. Fluttering comes with a loss of stability of the blades’ oscillation mode at the synchronization frequency. Estimates are obtained on the basis of the spectral analysis of the recording of transient processes of axial and centrifugal turbocompressors. The parameters of the blade oscillation modes and their power have been identified by means of the construction of models of the processes on the basis of the technology of Proni spectral analysis.

  • New planning methods of the scope of testing of nondiscardable expensive objects of a movable unit type Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

This article is devoted to a new approach of planning the testing of expensive objects. The topicality of the matter comes from the fact that the known methods of test planning are developed for items of serial and large-scale production when during the testing process it is possible to discard the set of products. The essence of the new approach is based on the nondiscarding of expensive objects. Updating the failed assembly element with the repetition of the testing until updating on a stand is taken as the basis. Analytical expressions of the testing scopes are obtained for different laws of failure distribution. The testing types and scopes of separate assembly units, mechanisms, and items as a whole are presented. The results of the investigations are certified by long-term tests of test samples and implemented in the industry standard.

    • Abstract:

The dynamic stability of the electromechanical system of turning of rotor excavators is studied with the allowance for the feedback of elastic vibrations of the actuator in the face with the lateral cutting force. The regions of instability are revealed and their relation to the design parameters of the cutting equipment is established. The conditions of radical elimination of the instability and damping of the dynamic system are determined by generating dissipative forces directly in the face cutting process.

It is shown that the difference in the elastic modulus of materials of the fastening and abutting members affects the distribution of contact pressure significantly less than the ratio of their diameter and thickness.

  • Hydrodynamic load impact on vibrations of fuel element clusters in water-moderated water-cooled power reactor (VVER) fuel assemblies Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

For the first time, the hydrodynamic loads on fuel element clusters are specified by measuring pressure pulsations in the gap between external line of the fuel elements and the internal surface of the hexahedral casing in VVER-440 fuel elements in the initial hydrodynamic part close to the lower support grid and in the region of steady flow. It is shown that the formation conditions of vortex flow structure at the fuel assembly input influence substantially the hydrodynamic load levels and spectral distribution and the corresponding vibration response of the fuel element clusters in the heat carrier longitudinal flow. The findings may be used to analyze vibration processes in the fuel assemblies of water-cooled nuclear reactors.

  • Estimating the reliability of elastically curved segment of gas pipeline using the criterion of crack growth resistance Export to Refworks

    • Abstract:

In the framework of random number theory, a mathematical model describing the reliability of an elastically curved segment of a gas pipeline according to a crack growth resistance criterion for the case where the physicomechanical characteristics of the pipe steel, fracture strength, gas pressure, temperature drop through the wall, and radius of the elastic curve are distributed according to a normal (Gaussian) law is developed. According to this data we find the permissible sizes of cracklike defects under which the safety of operation and residual rated lifetime of potentially dangerous segments of a gas pipeline are guaranteed.
